Flash tattoos are a commonality in tattoo shops around the world. Small, classic, pre-designed pieces that can be done quickly. In the early 1900’s flash tats become mainstream, as many shops were beginning to experience a high volume of customers, they needed pieces on-hand that could be executed quickly. These pieces were bold and simple, and utilized the primary ink colors, which were the most widely available.

Sailor Jerry’s art became king of flash tats after his Hawaii shop sent thousands of soldiers off to war wearing his tattoo signature style.
